Huaweis Honor 8 is an Android 6.0 phone with extras good enough to make you notice, and a build thats comfortable to hold and use in one hand. The extras in question? Two cameras on the back and a customizable button right below them that doubles as the fingerprint reader. The Honor 8s glossy, reflective coating channels Samsungs Galaxy S7 phone design (and smudges easily with finger grease), but at heart its essentially a rebranded Huawei P9 that costs less than the original, and well under two premium dual-camera phones: the LG V20 and iPhone 7 Plus .In the US, you can pick up the 32GB variant for $400 and the 64GB version for $450. Australian prices are still to come, but the US prices convert to roughly AU$525 and AU$590. In the UK, only the 32GB version is available, for £370 direct from Huawei , or from Amazon, where its bundled with a free Amazon Fire TV Stick worth £30. If you want to buy it as part of a phone contract, Three has the exclusive. The fast, accurate fingerprint reader may seem a little small if youre used to a larger target like the Huawei-made Nexus 6P , but since more of my finger covers a smaller scanner than a larger one, I felt like I got more hits than misses. This reader also doubles as a customizable button, which I programmed to launch the camera; I liked it a lot. Less successful are knuckle gestures. I guess Huawei figures sometimes your fingers arent free, but your knuckles are? Anyway, you can customize it so making gestures on your screen with your knuckles act as a shortcut. Draw a C to launch the camera, for instance. However, this felt gimmicky and unnatural.

The all-new Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 are aimed at a millennial audience and, as such, are focusing on features like design, long battery life and camera capabilities. But will this be enough to combat the incessant Chinese onslaught? We find out in our Samsung Galaxy M10 review. The Galaxy M10 doesn’t stray too far from the basic design principles of Samsung’s other mid-range hardware . The all-plastic build is utilitarian at best, but the company seems to be going for overall robustness than a flashy design. The phone feels like it could take a beating and come out looking just fine. That’s not to say that nothing has changed. Compared to Samsung’s On or J series , the M10 certainly takes a more modern stance. The front of the phone makes use of a waterdrop-style notch and has fairly minimal bezels to boot. The Galaxy M10 feels comfortable to hold and looks premium while at it.Continuing on to the ergonomics, the volume rocker and power buttons placed on the right side of the phone are easy to reach out to. The buttons have great feedback and do not have any unnecessary rattle, something many budget phones are guilty of.
The Honor View 20 is one of the first flagship phones of 2019 and it starts the year off with quite a show. A 48MP camera, 256GB of storage and a punch hole display mean this isnt the kind of phone we normally expect from Honor. Its phones are often cast as lower-cost alternatives to those of Huawei, which already tends to undercut Samsung and Apple. Sure, the Honor View 20 lacks some of the features of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro , but it looks, feels and behaves like a top-end mobile. If you can stomach its deliberately attention-grabbing finish, this is one of the most compelling phones of the moment. Its so good, in fact, that the Honor View 20 has earned a place in our best smartphone rundown - which is high praise indeed. The rest of the world didnt have to wait too long for it to be reborn as the Honor View 20, though. The phone was announced on January 22 and by that time, it was already listed for sale on Amazon India.
A year or so ago I said the Honor View 10 was a worthy and impressive flagship handset, easily able to hold its own with the best of the competition at its price. Since then weve seen an inexorable rise in top-flight handset prices, generating something of a backlash. Weve also seen the recent arrival of Chinese giant Xiaomi in the UK, its £499 Mi 8 Pro creating a real buzz and anticipation of more to come.If the £400-£600 price bracket was competitive before all that, its even more cutthroat now, and Honor has upped the ante with the View 20 . This 6.4-inch handset is available with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage for £499.99, or with 8GB and 256GB for £579.99.With the View 20, Honor has gone all out to create a handset that looks distinctively different. Three features contribute. There is the much-talked-about hole-punch camera, an intriguing design at the back, and the near all-screen front. Each of these deserves attention. The front camera sits in the top left of the screen, enclosed in a small circular frame, and embedded within the display rather than separated from it. This positioning is the cue for that hole-punch descriptor.
Honor has become accomplished at churning out excellent-value smartphones, and the Honor 9 Lite is no exception. Its not perfect, but with a decent quad-camera setup and a very handsome design, it delivers exceptional bang for your buck.Honors new budget smartphone seems to have a lot going for it on paper, packing an 18:9 Full HD+ screen, an aluminium frame, a glass back and Android 8 ; in some respects, it even trumps of few of todays flagships. But the Honor 9 Lite isn’t a flagship phone. It has 32GB of storage in contrast to the 64GB or 128GB found in todays top-enders. Its camera has no image stabilisation, and its powered by a mid-range Kirin 659 chipset with 3GB of RAM if youre in the UK, though a 4GB variant is available in India and other regions. Its price puts it on a par with the Moto G5 Plus and Nokia 6 , and makes the Honor 9 Lite the most affordable widely available 18:9 phone currently available in the UK. In the Honor line-up it sits below the recently announced Honor 7X , which is priced at £269, and above the Honor 6A (£139).
Honor, Huaweis affordable handset brand, often gets credit for coming up with phones that pack in the features at a fraction of the cost of flagship phones -- including those from Huawei itself. I liked this years top-of-the-range Honor 10 , for example: at £399 (inc. VAT), it delivers very good value for money.Honor currently offers two ultra low-cost handsets: the £129.99 Honor 7A and the £99.99 Honor 7S . Can Honor really deliver a usable smartphone at these price points, or has it cut costs too far, risking damage to its value for money reputation? One big plus for both handsets is that they are dual SIM and dont sacrifice a SIM slot for a MicroSD card -- the caddies are longer than usual with three bays, so that two SIMs plus a memory card are catered for. This is something every handset maker could learn from. The £99.99 Honor 7S is a relatively small (5.45-inch) handset by current standards, although the screens 18:9 aspect ratio keeps up with the current trend. The display resolution (295ppi) is moderate, but text is still readable and image quality (including video) perfectly adequate.
As reviewed, the Honor 10 Lite feels a little underbaked but with a little tinkering before launch, this is an enticing option for under £200. Laggy performance out the box but a robust feature set mean its still worth considering. The Honor 10 cemented itself as one of the best phones around the £400 price bracket, now the Honor 10 Lite is here to take ever that made its namesake so appealing and distil it down into a device that costs half as much.As the name and price imply, the Lite is a far more affordable device than its flagship sibling, but it isn’t hard to see that its makers have worked hard to either retain as many elements from the original Honor 10 as possible or recreate them in a more affordable manner. The Honor 10 Lite sports an elongated display, a corner-mounted vertically-aligned dual rear camera, a centrally-positioned rear fingerprint sensor and an eye-catching body with styled reflective pattern work across its back.
